Ross Companies Name 2024 Phillip T. Schaefer Vision Award Winner

James Larson, President and CEO of Ross Environmental Services, Inc., has been named the latest recipient of the prestigious Philip T. Schaefer Vision Award. This honor, presented annually by the Ross companies, recognizes an associate who exemplifies an unwavering commitment to the company, the community and the environment.

Larson, who has faithfully served the organization for over 25 years, has been a guiding force in shaping the company’s values and vision. Since being appointed President and CEO of Ross Environmental Services, Inc. in 2016, he has upheld a strong commitment to sustainability, operational excellence and community engagement. His leadership has fostered a collaborative and forward-thinking workplace, leaving a lasting impact on countless associates.

Larson was presented the award at the 2024 Ross Service Awards ceremony on February 8, 2025.

The Vision Award was created by the Ross companies to honor the memory of Philip T. Schaefer, former Vice President of Operations for Ross Incineration Services, Inc. Schaefer played a crucial role in the company’s history, serving in multiple capacities, including consulting for sales and leading the first Process Safety Management study. He was a tireless volunteer, athlete, environmentalist and sportsman, who demonstrated a daily commitment to his coworkers, health and wellness, the community, and the environment. Phil passed away in 2011 after a fearless battle with a rare form of cancer.

The award is presented annually to a Ross associate who embodies Schaefer’s dedication to the company, the community, and the environment. Associates of the Ross companies nominate candidates for the award, with the final selection made by a committee including members of the Schaefer family, company ownership, and select company management.

“Jim Larson’s integrity, leadership, and passion for our mission make him an outstanding recipient of this award,” said Bill Cromling III, President of Ross Transportation Services and a member of the RossWay Group® ownership team. “His time at the helm has been invaluable, and we deeply appreciate his unwavering dedication. As he prepares for a well-earned retirement in May, we wish him all the best in this next chapter.”

As Larson prepares to retire in April, this recognition stands as a testament to his extraordinary contributions and enduring legacy within the Ross companies.

Bill Cromling III and Jon Cromling, co-owners of the Ross Companies, and Dr. Michael Schaefer, Phil’s son, presented the award to Larson.
